Just a short photo update of our growing little garden.
If you haven't noticed, I'm a little obsessed with bamboo these days. When we first bought this little lot of land, I was elated at all the possibilities bamboo would bring. It all started with a little support structure for our tomato plants to grow, and now I'm simply carried away. Bamboo stakes for everyone!
Bamboo is a fantastic resource for my cucumbers, peas, and pole beans that are coming up. There's nothing better than getting a little crafty with the free resources we have laying around our yard. Self reliance right there folks.
So, other than growing a bamboo forest in my garden bed, I've just harvested our first batch of kale, a few handfuls of basil and strawberries, and our first pickling cucumber! Other veggies coming soon: Red peppers, Bib Lettuce, Watercress, Zucchini, Cherry Tomatoes, Collards, Napa Cabbage, Butter Beans, Red Potatoes, Carrots, Peas, Cilantro, and many many more kale plants! Yes, it's actually possible to grow that much food in such a small bed. Add it to the list of why I love companion planting.
However, we were still hungry for more growing space, so this weekend we built another garden bed! Going to attempt a couple watermelons, even though we're getting a bit of a late start. Hoping for some juicy red fruit by the time August rolls around!
